About this deal

There’s a little explanation on the first page about how this version differs from the last one, but I do believe that the only thing that changes with each update of the book is the ‘standard measurements’ table, so that the measurements are in line with the actual average of each size, so that you can use the right standard measurements when you’re making a commercial pattern. I will also concede that this book relies heavily on its pleasantly stylised illustrations and crisp diagrams to impart information rather than through reams of detailed text. My take on what she means is that unless it says otherwise, there is a 1cm allowance already included on all seams. There’s a lot of excess around the back, and it was too long and too tight around the hips (so I folded it up).

The rest of the book has been updated where necessary: in particular, new blocks for tailored shirts, new details on how to adapt mens blocks for womens wear, and a revision of sizing and labelling information. I draw lines down my side and take measurements seperately for back and front and use those to draft the front and back seperately as opposed to using the full bust, waist and hip measurements as in the book.

other linedrawings of basic dress design with technical directions for sizing, including methods for up-, and downsizing fitting home made clothing, complarative tables in text accompanied by technical descriptions for general sizing, incl.

I thought this was my own body shape (I have a flat back and upright posture so it wouldn’t surprise me) – but a little googling suggests that this is a known issue with the Aldrich instructions, as the front length doesn’t include any compensation for the bust fullness. However, the instructions are structured in a way that can be confusing if you’re new to pattern cutting. I'm guessing this means that if you want to add a centre back seam you'd draw the seam line, split the pattern in two and then add seam allowances. A good book for learning how to make your own patterns, design your own clothes, just the way you like.Discover the joy of reading with us, your trusted source for affordable books that do not compromise on quality. As well as using this book to design sewing patterns, I have also found it helpful over the years for design inspiration as well as for help drawing fashion flats; drawings that show exactly how a garment should look to someone making the garment.

More extremes of fashion that are shown by designers and displayed in the fashion journals may appear to be dismissed by High-street fashion, but ideas such as deconstruction or close fitting extremes are interpreted and infiltrate into a season's fashion style.Do let me know if there are any other books that you think I should pick up to review for you all – I can’t promise anything, but I’m always up for a new sewing book! The book is written for students who have mastered the basic principles of pattern cutting for women; it allows them to transfer easily to exploring designs for men and to approach the subject in a creative way. Was ich (Fachkraft) auch ganz ganz toll in diesen Büchern finde, ist dass einem auch das gradieren gezeigt wird, nicht nur angerissen sondern wirklich gut und verständlich gezeigt. Metric Pattern Cutting for Women's Wear provides a straightforward introduction to the principles of form pattern cutting for garments to fit the body shape, and flat pattern cutting for casual garments and jersey wear. Neuware -Since the first edition was published in 1980, Metric Pattern Cutting for Menswear has become established as the standard work on this subject and has proved invaluable as both a textbook for students and a reference source for the practising designer.
