The remote control angle: taking the remote sensor as an apex, 6 meters away, its controlled horizontal angle is within ±30°, while the vertical angle is within ±15°. With the stand attached, the 50-inch TV that I tested measures 705 x 1,117 x 251 mm and weighs 11.8kg, so while it is possible to set it up by yourself it’ll be much easier if you have another person to lend a hand. The TV’s built-in Wireless LAN Adapter supports the IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac communication protocols. Watching the battle sequence outside Maz’s tavern midway through Star Wars: The Force Awakens, gives an excellent sense of what this speaker system can manage. Given its limited resources, this TV copes pretty well. The sound effects of the laser blasts and the TIE fighters screaming past are crisp and detailed. The battle cries and dialogue of the rebels and troopers are clear and placed effectively in the soundscape. When the X-Wings come to the rescue and chase off the Empire, the rousing score still manages to excite. As with the picture adjustments, there are only a few settings to play with – only really the DTS processing mode and a dialogue enhancer. There’s also a TruVolume mode for night-time listening which will limit the peaks and troughs of loudness at any one volume level, so that you can hear the onscreen action without waking your neighbours.Whether looking at the dim bulbs of a pub, car headlights gleaming after dark, or the daylight cascading through an office window, this Hisense set was fully able to focus up to 700 nits peak brightness where it mattered, without notable blooming in surrounding pixels. 700 nits isn’t incredibly high, of course, compared to the 1,000-2,000 nits of some new Samsung TVs, but the U7QF knows what to do with what it’s given. The desktop stand also looks more metallic than it actually is, and its ’open’ style minimises the impact the TV has on your decor. Discover the best stories from Disney+, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic in one place. With 500+ movies and 300+ TV shows, from timeless classics to new originals, Disney+ has something for everyone.

You'll get colourful, sharp picture quality even though the HDR brightness could be better. And the design of the set will look smart in your living room. It's a shame that the sound isn't quite up to par, but that’s easily solved by hooking up a separate soundbar. If you are an enthusiast you will be aware of the downfalls with LCD technologies and using them in a dark room, and there is no difference here, but as a living room workhorse the Hisense is very good indeed. The vast majority of consumers will never push the U7QF hard enough to really find all the niggles we did and as such it will be a perfect choice for many. Viewing angles do mean it isn’t really suited to those sitting well off-axis, but when sat head on the image performance is very good and on a par with some much more expensive peers. Continuing the gaming discussion, the 55A7GQ’s HDMIs support ALLM (Automatic Low Latency Mode) switching with compatible devices (such as the Xbox Series X), and when switched into its dedicated Game picture preset the TV delivers a very respectable 14.6ms of input lag.eARC/ARC enables the TV to directly output the digital sound through an HDMI cable. Please note that it works only when the TV is connected to the audio receiver that supports the eARC/ARC (Audio Return Channel) function. The A7GQ also features Hisense’s propriety smart TV system, VIDAA U5.0, as well as Freeview Play with all the UK terrestrial catch-up apps and services. The VIDAA system is intuitive to use and runs at a decent speed from button press to app opening and playing, plus there is Netflix, Prime Video and YouTube in 4K HDR. There is a content discovery feature along with direct one-press buttons on the remote and there is also compatibility with Alexa for voice commands. Motion was also reasonably good with 24fps material looking decent for the most part, with only occasional judder noticeable with Ultra Smooth Motion switched off. 50Hz content also looked fair for the majority of content we viewed, without Ultra Smooth Motion engaged. We did notice some trailing edges on moving objects with action scenes or sports. When Ultra Smooth Motion is used, we encountered Soap Opera Effect (SOE) with the interpolation modes and, depending on the level of interpolation used, we also noticed more image artefacts with fast-moving objects breaking up at the edges as the system attempted to keep up with creating new frames with fast motion. As always, for purists, we would recommend disabling the Ultra Smooth Motion settings for film and drama content, but there are user settings for use with video content and sports if you feel you need those. Does it spread the audio all the way round the room? Does it offer height-infused Dolby Atmos sound? No. It’s a TV with small speakers and just enough processing that means you can understand what everyone is saying. Not all soundbars can manage that. Verdict

If you’re willing to spend a bit more for an even better piece of kit, the Samsung AU9000 review (50AU9000) was rated five stars in its T3 review. While it may not have Dolby Vision, it does have great picture performance from most sources. Choosing a 50-inch TV offers several benefits based on personal preferences and specific needs. Firstly, the screen size of a 50-inch TV is larger compared to smaller options, providing a more immersive viewing experience. This larger display allows for a greater level of detail and visual impact, enhancing your enjoyment of movies, TV shows, and sports. Rounding-up on the performance side of things is the gaming capabilities of the U7QF which are decent, with input lag coming in at 17ms in both SDR and HDR modes as measured by the Murideo Seven Generator. HDR gaming was also good, however, there are no HDMI 2.1 features available on the Hisense like VRR or ALLM.Attention: According to the size of the TV supporting surface, you can select one of the base stand installation patterns, as shown in the figure. You’ll find 4K HDR content available on all the big players. Since last year’s model was launched, UHD support for Google Play has arrived as has the BT Sport app, which is good news for football fans. Take out the 2 stands from the accessory bag and then insert the stands into the bottom slots of the TV. High Dynamic Range smart TVs have a wider colour palette - over a billion colours compared to a few hundred thousand available on non-HDR screens. More colours mean more accurate pictures, vivid colours and better contrast and shadow detail. Dolby Vision is Dolby’s version of HDR and HRD10+. OLED and QLED Bluetooth is a great feature for a smart TV, as it allows you to connect wireless audio devices; like speakers, headphones, hearing aids, or other peripheral devices like keyboards. Can I pair my phone to my smart TV?
